CLOU architects’ Health Centre in Évora, Portugal, has been named winner of the WAFX Prize 2025 in the Ageing and Health category. The prize, part of the World Architecture Festival’s future-focused awards, honours built projects that address major global challenges.

As part of the competition launched by the University of Évora for its new Health Centre, this competition entry by CLOU architects envisions a porous, village-like campus where health and education are integrated through shared public spaces under a continuous canopy.

Health and Learning under One Roof

Commissioned by the University of Évora, the project integrates medical and educational functions across a porous, low-rise campus. Framed by a continuous canopy, the buildings are arranged as a collection of interlinked pavilions that reflect the scale of the surrounding town. Public spaces, courtyards, and walkways foster informal interaction between students, staff, patients, and the local community.

About the WAFX Prize

The WAFX Prize recognises projects that address key global issues such as health, climate, ageing, and resilience. Selected across thematic categories, winning projects combine architectural ambition with social relevance and long-term impact. Évora Health Centre was awarded in the Health category for its contribution to a more integrated, human-centred vision of care and learning.
