Create a Cozy Prism Park

Located in the heart of the Jufeng Road commercial district in Pudong, Shanghai, PRISMA Xinjia spans from one basement level to seven floors above ground. Atop the seventh floor, CLOU has transformed the rooftop into an open-air sky block of approximately 4,600 square meters, breaking away from the enclosed nature of traditional curtain wall architecture. The design, themed “Prism & Nature,” reimagines the rooftop as a vibrant, elevated promenade that seamlessly blends geometric expression with the natural environment.

Conceived as a hybrid urban social destination blending entertainment and gastronomy, the project redefines the commercial potential of rooftop space through the interplay of geometric aesthetics and the vibrant pulse of everyday city life.

Strategically positioned next to a metro station and a primary urban artery, the site offers strong connectivity and high pedestrian flow potential. Anchored by the concept of a “Prism Park,” the design integrates landscape elements, interactive art, and programmed social activity into the elevated plane—establishing an immersive rooftop environment that functions as a vertical extension of the city’s public realm.

Where Vitality Breathes

The design draws inspiration from the geometric cuts and light-refracting qualities of a prism, unfolding across three narrative dimensions: chromatic gradation, multifaceted interaction, and symbiosis with nature. Defined by a linear geometric massing, the architectural language combines terracotta panels in brick red, coloured glass curtain walls, and semi-translucent membrane structures to create a layered façade that plays with opacity and transparency.

The natural texture of the terracotta echoes the urban vitality, while the gradient-patterned colored glass simulates prismatic refraction. During the day, shifting sunlight casts kaleidoscopic shadows; at night, integrated LED lights and projections generate dynamic halos, giving the neighborhood dual personalities by day and night.

The 300-metre linear space is structured as a continuous sequence of four signature zones—Firework Plaza, Star Ring Plaza, Star Fire Street, and Cloud Plaza—stitched together into a cohesive spatial experience. An integrated canopy system along the façade provides both sun shading and rain protection, enabling comfortable, all-weather social interaction beneath the eaves.

The seventh-floor outdoor block at PRISMA Xinjia is not only a commercial space but also a testing ground for new urban typologies. The design uses the rational geometry of the prism to structure the space, while integrating natural elements to introduce warmth and human scale. It brings together the precision of form and the softness of planting, the energy of urban life and the calm of an elevated retreat, the immediacy of retail and the longevity of experience. The result is a rooftop environment that explores new possibilities for the coexistence of commerce and nature in the city.
